Page Earns NESCAC Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week Honor

MEDFORD – Sophomore Danielle Page of the Tufts University women's cross country team has been named the first New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Performer of the Week for the 2019 season following the Jumbos' opening victory at the Bates Invitational on Saturday.

Page, a sophomore from Gloucester, Mass., placed first overall with a time of 18:13.8 in the 5,000-meter event which included 87 total finishers. She finished six seconds ahead of second place. Page led a Jumbo team that had the top three finishers and five of the first six. Head coach Kristen Morwick's Jumbos won the event by a convincing margin, scoring 97 compared to second-place and host Bates College's 194 score.

Running with teammates Sabrina Gornisiewicz and Anna Slager for most of the race, Page took a slight lead by the last 1,000 meters and pulled away in the final 400 meters for a strong finish. Her time is a cross country PR and her first college win in either cross country or track.

This is also the sophomore's first time earning the conference Performer of the Week award. She had a strong start to her freshman season last year, but missed the championship season with an injury.

Going back to last season, this is the third time in the last five weeks that a Jumbo has won the confernece honor.

Page and the Jumbos travel to Brunswick, Maine this coming Saturday for the Bowdoin Invitational. They are scheduled to start at noon at the Pickard Field Cross-Country Course.
