NEWVA Honors Presented to Three Members of Volleyball Squad



MEDFORD - The New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) recently announced its 2013 All-New England awards and Jumbos Isabel Kuhel, Elizabeth Ahrens and Virginia Clay were recognized.

Kuhel earned a spot on the NEWVA All-New England Second Team. The junior finished second in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with a .350 hitting percentage and was third with 1.01 blocks per set this fall.

Ahrens, a first-year competitor, was one of seven players in the region to earn All-Rookie Team honors. She led the conference with 1.14 blocks per set while hitting a strong .249 offensively.

Clay was selected to play in the 2013 NEWVA Senior Classic on Sunday (Dec. 8) at UMass Boston. One of 32 of New England’s top seniors invited to compete in the match, Clay was one of the Jumbos' top defenders and servers in 2013 with 168 digs and 29 aces respectively.

Head coach Cora Thompson's Jumbos finished 20-8 this season, including 7-3 in NESCAC for fourth place.
