Volleyball's Isabel Kuhel Earns AVCA All-New England Honorable Mention Nod

MEDFORD - Junior middle hitter / blocker Isabel Kuhel of the Tufts Volleyball team has been named to the 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) New England Region Honorable Mention team.

This is the second straight year that Kuhel has been recognized as one of the top players in the region. She was AVCA All-New England honorable mention last fall as well.

In 22 matches and 82 sets played, Kuhel averaged 2.45 kills per set with 201 total kills and just 54 errors for an outstanding .350 hitting percentage. She also served 15 aces offensively.

Defensively, Kuhel was also one of the New England Small College Athletic Conference leaders with 1.01 blocks per set. She finished with 23 solos and 60 assists for 83 total. She was also on the spot for 53 digs (0.65 per set).

Kuhel's best match offensively came against Wellesley on September 7 when she had 13 kills and just one error in 20 swings for a .600 hitting percentage. Her season-high of 18 kills came against Brandeis that same day at the Brandeis Invitational. Against Simmons on November 2, Kuhel was in on seven blocks including four solos.

Head coach Cora Thompson's Tufts team finished 20-8 overall and 7-3 in NESCAC for fourth place.
