MEDFORD - Juniors Isabel Kuhel (Brisbane, CA) and Hayley Hopper (Carlsbad, CA) of the Tufts University Volleyball team have been selected to the 2013 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Conference teams announced today.
Kuhel, who was an All-Conference second team pick and the Rookie of the Year in 2011, was named to the first team. Hopper was a second team pick, receiving her first All-League accolade.
With a .350 hitting percentage this fall, Kuhel ranks second in NESCAC. She finished with 201 kills and just 56 errors in 414 attacks. She was also one of the top blockers in the league with 1.01 per set. Despite missing six matches, she recorded 23 solos and 60 assists for 83 total blocks to rank third. She had 17 kills in five sets against Connecticut College to help Tufts to a NESCAC Championship quarterfinal win on November 8. Kuhel matched her season high of seven blocks with two solos and five assists against Middlebury on October 19.
Hopper ranked 11th in the league with 2.87 kills per match, including a team season-high 20 kills in that five-set win over Middlebury on October 19. She led the Jumbos with 253 kills overall. Her 37 service aces were second on the team and tied for 11th in the league. Also a strong defensive contributor this season, Hopper contributed 2.44 digs per set. She finished with 17 digs in a four-set win over Colby on November 2.
Head coach Cora Thompson's Jumbos finished 20-8 overall and were fourth in the league with a 7-3 mark. They advanced to the NESCAC semi-finals before losing to eventual champion Williams.
