    Senior outside hitter Caitlin Updike of the Tufts Univeristy volleyball team has been named as a 2010 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Div. III Honorable Mention All-American. This is the second straight season that Updike was an honorable mention All-American.

    In the fourth match of the day, and certainly the most anticipated match of the day, host and #5-seeded Springfield College defeated #4 seeded Tufts, 3-0, in the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Regional on Friday. Game scores were 25-14, 25-19, 25-20.

    Three members of the NCAA Tournament-qualifying Tufts University volleyball team were voted on to the 2010 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Conference teams today. Following a vote by the league's 11 head coaches, senior outside hitter Caitlin Updike (Manhattan Beach, CA) was named to the First Team. Junior libero Audrey Kuan (Los Altos, CA) and sophomore setter Kendall Lord (LaJolla, CA) are on the Second Team.

    Fourth-seeded Tufts University earned a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-18) win over Connecticut College Friday evening in Amherst College’s LeFrak Gymnasium to advance to the semifinal round of the NESCAC Volleyball Championship. The Jumbos improve to 21-9 (7-3 NESCAC) and will take on the host Lord Jeffs tomorrow at 1 pm, while the Camels end their season at 19-7 (7-3).

    The Tufts University Jumbos lost twice on Saturday at the Hall of Fame Volleyball Invitational. In the Gold Bracket semi-final at noon, the #4 seed Jumbos were blanked by #1 seed Middlebury 3-0. Then in the third place match against #2 seed Amherst later in the day, the Jumbos went down in four sets.

The Polar Bears improve to 13-7 and win their program-best sixth conference game of the year (6-2 in NESCAC). Tufts falls to 14-6 (5-3 in NESCAC).

Tufts swept Williams College, 25-14, 25-19, 25-15, last year’s runner-up, to advance to the title match while Wellesley defeated Springfield College, 19-25, 29-27, 25-22, 25-23, en route to its first championship match appearance since 1999.
