MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Tufts University women's outdoor track & Field team started its 2019 season at the Alan Connie / Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina University on Friday.
Five Jumbos were in action in five events at today's meet, which was held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
Senior co-captain Evelyn Drake competed in the hammer throw today and had a 138'11" (42.35m) mark that is ranked 10th nationally early in the season. She finished 13th out of 54 throwers in the event.
Senior co-captain Trish Blumeris and freshman Julia Worden were both entered in the 100 meters preliminaries. Worden finished in 13.75 seconds and Blumeris ran a personal record of 14.04 seconds. Neither advanced to Saturday's final.
Blumeris was also in the long jump, where she leapt 15'2 ¼" (4.63m). She placed in the middle of the pack at 26th out of 52. Senior co-captain Brita Dawson also participated in the long jump and landed a 15'0" (4.57m) for 34th place.
Worden had Tufts' best finish of the day with a 10th out of 29 runners in the 200 meters. Her time was 28.40 seconds.
In the last women's event of the day, junior Jennifer Jackson timed 19:22.10 in the 5,000 meters. The mark is at #50 in the nation as of 7:30 pm on Friday evening.
The Jumbos will compete at the Alan Connie / Shamrock Invitational on Saturday as well.
