LEWISTON, Maine – The No. 7 Tufts women's tennis team recorded a 9-0 win over No. 34 Bates College on Saturday afternoon in Merrill Gymnasium led by four different Jumbos winning in singles and doubles action.

Following the victory, Tufts improves to 4-5 overall and is 3-2 in NESCAC action on the season. Bates falls to 4-6 overall and is 1-1 in conference action with the loss.
Tufts first-years Maggie Dorr and Caroline Garrido had an 8-4 victory over senior Bella Stone and first-year Anna Rozin in No. 1 doubles play. The Jumbos completed the 3-0 sweep of Bates in doubles as senior Tomo Iwasaki and sophomore Patricia Obeid won 8-2 in No. 2 doubles and first-year Anna Lowy and junior Kat Wiley were victorious 8-6 in No. 3 action.
Dorr recorded a 6-4, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles over sophomore Hannah Sweeney. Iwasaki also won her second match of the day when she defeated Stone 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Garrido was the other Jumbo to win in straight sets in singles as she won 6-1, 7-5 over junior Suzanne Elfman at #4.
Obeid won a three-set match in No. 3 singles for her second victory of the day over Rozin by a 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 margin. Tufts also got a second-set tie-break win from first-year Nicole Frankel (6-3, 7-6, (4)) and a third-set super tie-breaker victory from sophomore Kiara Rose (1-6, 6-3, 10-8) in No. 5 and 6 action respectively.
For the match, Dorr, Iwasaki, Obeid, and Garrido each recorded a pair of wins in singles and doubles for the Jumbos.
Tufts packed up after the mach and headed to Colby College for round two of their Saturday NESCAC double-header slated to start at 3:30 pm. Bates will play again next Sunday when they travel to Wheaton with a 1 pm start time.
