Women's Tennis Closes Fall Season with Success at Bowdoin Invitational

Mina Karamercan did not lose in singles or doubles at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Four singles players and four doubles pairs from the Tufts University women's tennis team were undefeated in match play at the Bowdoin Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Senior co-captain Mina Karamercan and freshman Nicole Frankel had the most success in singles with 3-0 marks. Senior Tomo Iwasaki and freshman Maggie Dorr posted 2-0 records. For doubles, Karamercan and freshman teammate Caroline Garrido went 2-0, while the combos of Karamercan with sophomore Patricia Obeid, sophomore Kiara Rose with Dorr and Garrido with Frankel all won a double match.

Karamercan's singles victories came against Skidmore College's Dea Koiava 6-4, 6-2, Bowdoin's Julia Marks 6-1, 7-6 (5) and Wellesley's Justine Huang 7-6 (4), 6-2. Frankel's 3-0 record featured victories over Fleming Landau from Bowdoin 7-6 (5), 6-0, Michaela Markwart from Wellesley 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 and Laura Swenson from Skidmore 6-0, 6-1.

Iwasaki won 6-1, 5-7, 10-2 over Bowdoin's Devon Wolfe and had a 6-2, 6-1 final against Skidmore's Audrey Soohoo. Dorr compiled her 2-0 mark with wins against Bates' Lauren Hernandez (6-3, 6-3) and Wellesley's Libby Chang (6-0, 6-2).

Garrido won two out of her three singles matches during the weekend.

In doubles, Karamercan and Garrido won 8-4 against Bates College's Hannah Sweeney and Hernandez. They also bested Marks and Wolfe from Bowdoin 8-6.

In addition to the trio of Tufts doubles pairs which won their only match of the weekend, Iwasaki and senior co-captain Julia Keller were victorious in two of their three contests.

The Bowdoin Invitational concluded Tufts' fall play. They will resume the 2018-19 year with a dual match at Trinity on March 9.
