WILLIAMSTOWN – Making a strong debut in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships competed each fall, freshman Caroline Garrido of the Tufts University women's tennis team lost in the singles semi-finals on Sunday.
Garrido, who had won four times over the weekend to make it to the semi-finals, fell 6-3 and 6-1 to Amherst College's Jackie Bukzin, who went on to win the ITA regional title.
On Friday Garrido had two wins versus Carolina Mertz from Babson 6-3, 6-2 and Hannah Sweeney of Bates 6-2, 6-4 in the opening rounds. The Tufts rookie then had a pair of impressive victories on Saturday as she eliminated Wesleyan's Kristina Yu 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the round of 16 and added a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Wheaton College's Ines de Bracamonte in the quarterfinals.
Head coach Kate Bayard's team plays at the Bowdoin Invitational on October 12-13 to conclude their fall season.
