Women's Tennis Falls to Top-Seeded Williams in NESCAC Semi-Finals, 5-0


AMHERST - The #4 seed Tufts University women's tennis team fell to #1 seed Williams College on Saturday morning, 5-0, in the semi-finals of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship hosted by Amherst College. The undefeated Ephs earned a 3-0 advantage after doubles play, and took the No. 1 and No. 4 singles matches to clinch the victory.

Williams took a pair of 8-3 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Ephs pair Juli Raventos and Julia Cancio took down Mina Karamercan and Otilia Popa at No. 1, while Korina Neveux and Giulia Nieto del Rio bested Jumbos duo Patricia Obeid and Lauren Louks at No. 2.

Mia Gancayco and Chloe Henderson got an 8-1 win for Williams at No. 3 over Zoe Miller and Kat Wiley.

The Ephs kept rolling in singles play, earning the first two decisions to clinch the match sweep. Raventos earned her second victory of the day at No. 1 singles, defeating Obeid 6-4, 6-0. Cancio used two sets at No. 4 to take her second victory of the day, a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tufts junior Tomo Iwasaki.

With the loss, Tufts (12-6) will now await a potential at-large berth into the NCAA tournament. Bids will be announced Monday at noon. Williams (17-0) moves on to the NESCAC Championship tomorrow at 9:00 a.m., against #2 seed Middlebury.
