Women’s Tennis Compiles 26 Victories at the Bowdoin Invitational on Friday and Saturday

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Tufts University women's tennis team posted a combined record of 26-13 during the two-day Bowdoin Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Brunswick, Maine. The Jumbos recorded a 16-7 record in singles action and a 10-6 mark in doubles action. 

Julia Keller posted six victories, with three coming in singles action. 

The Jumbos were led by sophomore Mina Karamercan (5-1) and sophomore Julia Keller (6-1). Eight other Jumbos competed in the tournament, including senior Jacqueline Baum (4-1), senior Hannah Conroy (4-1), freshman Eliza Brown (4-2), sophomore Tomo Iwasaki (3-2), sophomore Otilia Popa (3-2), senior Conner Calabro (3-2), freshman Katherine Wiley (2-3) and senior Chelsea Hayashi (2-3).

In singles action, Karamercan posted a 3-0 record, as she defeated Ada Wiggins of Skidmore, 7-5, 6-3, Carina Chen of Wellesley, 6-1, 6-3, and Justine Huang of Wellesley, 7-6, 6-1. Keller also posted a perfect 3-0 record in singles action, as she defeated Andjela Stojkovic of Wellesley, 6-3, 6-0, Sarah Yan of Wellesley, 6-3, 6-4, and Danielle Giannetti of Skidmore, 5-7, 6-1, (10-6). 

Conroy and Popa posted 2-0 records, respectively, in singles matches. Conroy outlasted Lauren Hernandez of Bates, 6-1, 6-4, and Morgan Woods of Bates, 6-1, 6-0, while Popa defeated Korina Hernandez of Wellesley 6-7, 6-3, (10-8), and Dasha Kostikina of Wellesley, 6-2, 6-0. 

Iwasaki boasted a 2-1 record in singles action, as she defeated Pilar Giffenig of Bowdoin, 7-5, 6-3, and Chen of Wellesley, 6-4, 2-6, (10-6). Baum and Brown both went 1-1, respectively, in singles action. Baum defeated Sojin Ki of Wellesley, 7-5, 6-3, while Brown won a match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. 

Wiley and Calabro also submitted 1-1 records, respectively, in singles action. Wiley outlasted Madie Benn of Skidmore. 6-2, 6-2, and Calabro defeated Sasa Jovanovic of Bowdoin, 3-6, 6-2, (10-8). 

In doubles action, the pairing of Karamercan and Baum went 2-0, Keller and Brown went 2-1, Hayashi and Brown went 1-0, Keller and Calabro went 1-0, Conroy and Baum went 1-0, Hayashi and Conroy went 1-1, Calabro and Popa went 1-1, Iwasaki and Wiley went 1-2, and Popa and Karamercan went 0-1. 

The Jumbos are scheduled to open up the spring portion of their schedule with a matchup against Oberlin at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, on March 19. The squad is scheduled to host its first event of the spring season, when it welcomes Brandeis to Medford, Massachusetts, on March 29.
