MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Tufts women's swimming and diving competed at Wesleyan on Saturday in a quad event that also featured WPI and Williams. The Jumbos defeated Wesleyan 234-80 and WPI 237-84. They fell 214.5-104.5 against Williams.
In the 400 freestyle relay, Tufts' A unit of senior Colleen Doolan, sophomores Abby Claus and Sasha Fong, and first-year Mary Hufziger posted a second-place finish at 3:36.35. Jumbos sophomore Lily Kurtz also placed second overall with a 30.60 mark in the 50 breaststroke.Tufts first-year Jeanette Khowong recorded a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke clocking a time 59.74 seconds, which was over a second better than Williams first-year Abby Matheny.
Fong posted a time of 25.95 seconds in the 50 butterfly where she finished second. Fong (58.02) also finished second overall in the 100 butterfly. The brown and blue's first-year Jeanette Khowong recorded a time of 28.24 seconds for a second-place finish. In the 100 freestyle, Hufziger ended second with a 54.35 mark. Claus (2:08.93) also placed second in the 200 fly.
Claus finished with a time of 4:37.91 in the 400 individual medley which was good for third overall. Hufziger placed third overall in the 200 free as well at 1:57.25. Kurtz also participated in the 100 breaststroke where she finished third with a 1:07.42 mark.
For the diving events, Jumbo sophomore Amber Chong and freshman Maia Golub had top-three finishes off both boards. Chong was the runner-up in the one-meter (223.30) and three-meter events (227.75). Golub scored third-place points with 219 in one-meter and 220.25 in three-meter.
The Jumbos, who enter into the semester break, will next be in action on January 19 when they will compete against Wheaton College at 12 pm.
