Julia Rafferty, a two-year captain and four-year starter for the Bates College Women's Soccer team from 2010-13, is in her fifth season with the Jumbos. She has been the lead assistant on the staff of Tufts teams that earned NCAA Tournament berths in 2017 and 2018. The 2017 team was also a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) finalist.
Prior to Tufts, Rafferty was an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator at the University of Mary Washington. She was also a coach for the Fredericksburg Futbol Club in Virginia.
At Bates, Rafferty was selected as the Team Most Valuable Player for the 2012 season. She was also a team captain and two-year starter for the Bobcat Women's Basketball team, earning the Nellie Bannister Burrill Award for outstanding achievement and dedication during the 2013-14 season.
Rafferty also served as an assistant coach for the Tufts women's basketball team in 2016-17, helping the Jumbos reach the NCAA Championship game. She has stepped down from that role to coach full-time with women's soccer.
Originally from Reading, Mass., Rafferty was a three-sport athlete at Phillips Academy in Andover.
