Early in the first half, Tufts started its productive afternoon behind a goal from sophomore Lily Sykes. She received the ball just outside the box and rifled it into the top right corner to give the Jumbos a 1-0 lead. That is the first career goal for Sykes.
A few minutes later, the Jumbos added to their lead. Junior Hannah Isenhart sent a pass to freshman Madeleine Pero who fired a one-timer that snuck inside the right post to give Tufts a 2-0 advantage.
Tufts then capped off their first-half scoring flurry with another goal in the 37th minute. Following a shot off the crossbar and another off a Bates defender, the ball bounced to freshman Margaux Ameer who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal to make it a 3-0 lead.
Bates finally broke through on the scoresheet in the second half on a spectacular goal from Elizabeth Patrick. In the 64th minute, Patrick fired a shot from the right wing that beat freshman goalkeeper Hayley Bernstein from an impossible angle to narrow the deficit to 3-1.
Tufts added another goal to the scoreboard 15 minutes later. In the 79th minute, sophomore Stephanie DiLeo headed the ball into the back of the net off a long free kick to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Bernstein only faced two shots in the contest. She improves to 6-1-1 in her rookie season. Katherine Nuckols and Elizabeth Crawford both saw time in goal for the Bobcats. They combined to make 10 saves on 14 shots on goal in the contest.
