Women's Sailing 3rd at Showcase Qualifier Hosted by Brown

CRANSTON, R.I. – The Tufts University women's sailing team had another strong performance over the weekend when they placed third out of 15 teams at the Showcase Qualifier hosted by Brown at Edgewood Yacht Club.

By finishing among the top nine teams at the regatta, Tufts qualifies to compete at the Showcase Finals hosted by Navy in two weeks.

Over the weekend 15 races were competed in two divisions. Tufts accumulated finishes totaling to 50 in A's and 128 in B's for a 178 team score. They were just three behind second-place MIT, who scored 100-75-175.

Host Brown University won the regatta with a 73 team score (41-32). Penn, Boston College, College of Charleston, Rhode Island, Georgetown and Fordham also advanced to the Showcase Final.

The Jumbos were second in A division where junior skipper Talia Tland sailed with sophomore crew Ann Sheridan. Their 50 score was just nine behind Brown (41), the A division winners. Tufts' A team won three consecutive races from the eighth through the 10th and also had five second-place scores during the weekend.

In B division Tufts finished ninth with sophomore Abbie Carlson skippering and sophomores Paige Tyler and Jessica Friedman as crews. Tyler crewed the first through sixth races and Friedman was on board for seventh through 15th. The Jumbo B's raced to second place in the 13th start and also had a pair of fourths.
