WEST MEDFORD – The Tufts University women's sailing team hosted the Duplin Women's Team Race on Sunday out of Bacow Sailing Pavilion. The Jumbos placed sixth of eight teams.

Saturday racing was canceled due to too much wind. Sunday was a nice day with west winds of 8-16 knots that shifted to the SW as the temperature climbed into the 50s.

A single round-robin was followed by mini-rounds with a Top 4 and Bottom 4. Tufts was 3-4 in the round robin with victories against Boston University, Northeastern, and South Florida. The BU team later advanced to the Top 4. Jumbo dinghies were first and second along with fifth gainst both Northeastern and South Florida.

Tufts did not advance to the Top 4, instead competing in a Bottom 4 round with MIT, South Florida and Northestern. They defeated MIT, but lost to the other two to finish the day with a 4-6 overall mark.

Brown University went undefeated (10-0) to win the 40th Duplin Trophy with Boston College (7-3) in second place.

Racing for the Jumbos were freshman skipper Abbie Carlson with senior crew Taylor Hart, freshman skipper Lera Anders with freshman crew Jessica Friedman and sophomore crew Talia Toland with freshman crew Ann Sheridan.

The event honors former Jumbo head coach and sailing icon Joe Duplin.
