MEDFORD – The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) leading Tufts University Jumbos have earned an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III National Offensive Player of the Week award for the second year in a row as senior Dakota Adamec was honored today.
Adamec, who received NESCAC Player of the Week for the third time in her career on Monday, helped lead head coach Courtney Shute's Jumbos to a 3-0 record during a busy spring break week for the team. Tufts won 8-7 at College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Wednesday, 12-6 at Trinity College in NESCAC action on Saturday and then finished the week with a 17-5 non-league win at home over Endicott College on Sunday.
In the three games, Adamec scored seven goals with two assists for nine points. She scored three times on four free-position shots, won four draw controls and picked up two groundballs during the week. Her seven goals came on 17 shots.
At TNCJ, Adamec scored her first goal on a free-position shot to tie the score at 2-2. Tufts would not trail again and she added two more goals in the second half for a team-high three in the close win. Her four points (two goals, two assists) led the Jumbos at Trinity. In a game that Tufts led 3-2 at intermission, she scored two goals with an assist in the second half to help the Jumbos pull away to the six-goal victory. Her two goals against Endicott came during a 5-0 Tufts run in the first half that turned a 2-1 deficit into a 6-2 lead as the Jumbos went on to a big victory.
Caroline Novak, a senior on the Tufts team last year, won National Player of the Week from the IWLCA on April 11 of the 2018 season.
Adamec has 16 goals and three assists for 19 points this season for a 7-0 Jumbo squad that is ranked seventh in the IWLCA Division III poll and is the only undefeated team in NESCAC (3-0).
The Jumbos play next at home against Connecticut College on Saturday at 1 pm.
