|Zoe Howard won five of her six foil matches tonight|
CAMBRIDGE – The Tufts University women's fencing team won 7-2 in foil matches against Wellesley College to highlight its first night of action for the 2018-19 season on Tuesday.
The Jumbos lost to Wellesley overall 17-10 and had a 25-2 defeat to a strong Harvard team as well in their first matches of the year at Harvard tonight.
Senior co-captain Zoe Howard, sophomores Georgia Kollias and Dana Lee and freshman Allison Cheng fenced the foil matches against Wellesley. Howard and Cheng won all three of their matches, while Kollias had the other Tufts victory.
Howard was the only Jumbo to meet with some success against Harvard, winning two of her three foil matches. She had a 5-2 victory against Melissa Du and a 5-4 win against Natalie Yang from the Crimson.
Harvard improved to a 6-1 record with their two victories tonight. Wellesley is 17-5 after splitting their matches tonight.
The Jumbos will return to action with the first Northeast Fencing Conference multi-meet of the year at Brown on January 26.
