MALDEN – The Tufts University women's rowing team won five races against Amherst College and Smith College on Sunday at Malden River.
The Jumbo second varsity eight, which was 2-0 today, finished the weekend with a 4-0 mark including wins against Trinity and Coast Guard on Saturday. The third varsity eight finished the weekend with a 2-0 mark, while the first varsity eight's 2-0 record today put them at 3-1 for the weekend.
The first varsity eight was the first to race for Tufts today, and they pulled to a 7:37.46 to 7:45.95 victory over Smith. They would cap their day with a 7:52.48 time defeating Amherst's 8:25.82.
The second varsity eight also beat a very competitive Smith eight 7:51.37 to 7:58.64. The Jumbos finished the day with a 22-second win over Amherst (8:11.76 to 8:33.74).
The third varsity eight was the final Jumbo boat to race and they put a happy ending on the day with an 8:08.40 victory to Smith's 8:22.91.
The novice four race was scratched because of illness and injury on the other team.
The third varsity eight was the only Jumbo boat the remained intact from Saturday. That line-up was cox Julia Turner with Arielle Mann, Lienne Ng, Abby Henne, Grace Duisberg, Risa Williams, Sophia Carroll, Kathryn Luhrman and Danielle Kaden.
Eighth-ranked Tufts welcomes #1 in the nation Bates, #2 Wesleyan and #9 Wellesley College to Malden River for races next Saturday.
