North Receives D3hoops Second Team All-America Accolades

MEDFORD - Junior center Michela North of the Tufts University women's basketball team capped a season full of individual honors when she was named to the All-America second team on March 22.

North is the only New England player on the D3hoops first three All-American teams. The organization picked four teams and an honorable mention team.

During the season, North was selected as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Division III Player of the Week on January 12, as well as NESCAC Player of the Week that week.

Her post-season honors include Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American, Northeast Region Player of the Year and first team, and NESCAC Co-Player of the Year and first team.

A 6'2" center, North leads Tufts with 14.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. She has a 51.0 field goal percentage with 174 makes in 341 attempts. North has 17 double-doubles this season including 17 points and 19 rebounds in the NCAA third round against Albright. She poured in 23 points against Moravian in the second round and scored seven of her 13 points to go with 10 rebounds in the national semi-final versus Wartburg.

Head coach Carla Berube's Jumbos will play in the NCAA Division III Championship game against Thomas More College on April 4 in Indianapolis.
