KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Senior RF Kristen Caporelli hit a two-run single in the fifth inning that made the difference in Tufts University's 3-1 softball victory over Mount Saint Mary College in Florida on Saturday afternoon.

With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Tufts junior CF Maggie Lebinski hit a one-out single. Sophomore 2B Emma Della Volpe followed with a walk and then junior LF Emily Serata singled to left loaded the bases. Caporelli's single to right scored Lebinski and Della Volpe.
Mount Saint Mary had scored first after two were out in the first inning. Van Meter walked junior SS Emily Lang and sophomore pitcher Morgan O'Neill and then junior LF Lauren Oury hit an rbi single to center.
Van Meter walked five in her four-inning outing, but that was the lone run she allowed. She worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the third and gave up just two hits with five K's overall.
Tufts had tied the game at 1-1 when Lebinski (2 for 2, 2 runs) hit a two-out double in the bottom of the third. Della Volpe followed with an rbi double.
O'Connor earned a three-inning save for the Jumbos, giving up just two hits and a walk.
Oury for Mount Saint Mary was 2 for 3. The Knights stranded 10 base runners in the game. O'Neil started in the circle and went three innings allowing two hits and a run. Reliever Christen Hansen would get the loss as she surrendered three hits and two runs in three innings.
Tufts finished 2-0 on the opening day of its spring trip including an exciting 4-3 win over Amherst earlier. They play Hamilton and Rutgers-Camden tomorrow. Mount St. Mary (0-1) played Marian later on Saturday afternoon.
