Ostapovich, Galbiati Combine on No-Hitter as Softball Defeats Pine Manor 15-0

MEDFORD – Sophomore Maria Ostapovich and senior Raina Galbiati combined on a no-hitter as the Tufts University softball team defeated Pine Manor College, 15-0, on Friday afternoon at Spicer Field.

Maria Ostapovich's first collegiate victory is a combined no-hitter

Ostapovich went four innings, walking two and striking out five to earn her first collegiate victory. Galbiati hurled a 1-2-3 fifth inning in relief with two K's. It's the first no-hitter by the Jumbos since three-time national champion Allyson Fournier threw one at Colby on April 25, 2015.

The Jumbos scored three in the second, eight in the third and four in the fourth today. Sophomore 1B Casey Maggiore doubled and scored in the second. Junior SS Christian Cain hit a three-run double followed by a two-run home run by sophomore Emily Serata in the third. Freshman Emma Della Volpe singled home a run and scored in the fourth.

Tufts' 18-hit attack was led by sophomore Annika Han, junior Kelsey Dion and junior Isabel Smokelin with three apiece. Serata and senior 3B Sara Willner-Giwerc both scored three times. In addition to Cain's three rbis, Della Volpe, Dion, Maggiore, Serata, senior DH Sarah Finnigan and Smokelin all had two.

Ashley Smith took the pitching loss for the Gators.

Tufts travels to Amherst for key non-divisional NESCAC games tomorrow. Pine Manor hosts Lesley on Monday.
