Co-ed Sailing Wins Home Hood Trophy on Upper Mystic Lake

WEST MEDFORD – In a home regatta competed out of the Bacow Sailing Pavilion, the Tufts University co-ed team was first out of 10 teams at the annual Hood Trophy this weekend.

For 10 races – most of them contested on Sunday – the A and B division dinghies for all 10 teams sailed in one combined fleet. Tufts had scores of 49 by its A division boat and 42 by B's for a 91 team total to win. Second-place Yale totaled 86 for A's and 76 for B's adding up to a 162 final.

Tufts took both the first and second spots out of the 20 places. Sophomore skipper Alex Fasolo and senior crew Duke Saunders – Tufts' B team – were the top finishers. Sophomore skipper Sam Merson with senior crew Emily Calandrella were the runner-up.

The Jumbo B's won the last five races of the regatta to go with a second place in the third race. The A's won the third race and posted a trio of runner-up performances in the fourth, fifth, and 10th starts.
