Co-ed Sailing Dominates New England Freshman Championship at Home

Ansgar Jordan shared the skipper role in A division

MEDFORD – The Tufts University co-ed sailing team's freshmen dominated to win the annual Nickerson Trophy emblematic of the New England Freshman Championship on Saturday and Sunday.

Tufts hosted the regatta out of Bacow Sailing Pavilion on Upper Mystic Lake.

Nine races were sailed in two divisions. Tufts posted scores of 19 in A's and 26 in B's for a 45 total. They were 30 points ahead of runner-up Roger Wiliams' 75 score. Boston College (82), Rhode Island (124) and Yale (129) rounded out the top five in the 17-team regatta.

The Jumbos used seven freshman sailors overall and were dominant in both divisions. They won five of the nine races in A division and had seconds in the third and seventh starts. For B's, they posted three victories and two runner-up efforts.

A division skippers for the Jumbos were Sam Merson (first through sixth races) and Ansgar Jordan (7-9). George Sidamon-Eristoff crewed with Merson and Jessica Friedman joined Jordan.

In B's, Tufts had Charlie Hibben skipper the first through fourth races and Taro Sochi was skipper in five through nine. Mallory Hood crewed all nine B races.
