|Jackson McCoy both skippered and crewed races for Tufts|
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Tufts' Co-ed Sailing was 15th out of the 18 teams competing at the Fiske-Harriman-Sleigh Trophy Co-ed Showcase on Saturday and Sunday hosted by St. Mary's College.
A full schedule of 18 races was challenged in two divisions over the two days. Tufts totaled finishes of 232 in A's and 188 in B's for their 420 final score. They were well behind 14th-place Navy (373), but edged 16th-place Old Dominion (421).
Yale was the Showcase champion with a 124-122-246 scoring line.
The Jumbos were 16th in A division with best finishes of second in the fifth race and fifth in the seventh start. Tufts tried several combinations led by senior skippers Jackson McCoy and Florian Eenkema van Dijk. McCoy skippered the first through 10th races and the 13th through 16th. Eenkema Van Dijk had the 11th and 12th along with the 17th and 18th. Crew duties were shared by junior Emma Clutterbuck (1-10), McCoy, (11-12, 17-18), senior Ian Morgan (13-14) and Eenkema van Dijk (15-16).
The Jumbo B's were 13th in the division including a third-place finish in the 17th race and a fifth-place in the sixth. Senior Cam Holley skippered all 18 races. Crewing was split between Morgan (1-10) and sophomore Wells Drayton (11-18).
Sailors were greeted on Saturday with SW winds 5-8 knots that shifted West, NW and the final B race of the day was sailed in a 5 knot southerly. Ten races were sailed in each division. Sunday featured a great breeze from the NW at 15-20 knots prevailing all day which resulted in dxciting sailing with many capsizes.
