ENFIELD, N.H. – Tufts Co-ed Sailing placed second in C division racing and 10th overall at the annual Captain Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth on Saturday and Sunday.
Eleven races were contested in each of three divisions. Tufts compiled scores of 110 in A, 113 in B and 62 in C for a 285 total. They were eight points back from ninth-place Yales (277) and 23 ahead of 11th-place Vermont (308).
Stanford won the inter-conference regatta with 57-31-100 (188) scores.
Tufts' C team of senior skipper Jack Bitney with senior crew Ashley Smith and sophomore crew Maria Brush were the top Jumbo performers. Bitney and Brush won the fourth race and were the runner-up in the sixth. The Jumbos also had three fourth-place finishes on their way to being the runner-up in the division.
The Jumbo B's were also 11th in their division. Senior Chris Keller skippered the first through sixth and 11th races while classmate Jackson McCoy took over for the seventh through 10th. Senior Sarah Bunney crewed all 11 races. McCoy and Bunney were fifth in the ninth race for the top Tufts finish in the division.
Saturday saw a light breeze that developed into a sailable Northwesterly. Sunday was a cold start, but a shifty Northerly with hits of west and east kept the racing committee on their toes.
