Holley, Morgan Lead Sailing to 6th Place at Boston Dinghy Club Cup on the Charles

All-American Ian Morgan skippered in B division

CAMBRIDGE – With the New England Championship approaching next weekend, the Tufts University co-ed sailing team was sixth in a final tune-up for the post-season at the 82nd Annual Boston Dinghy Club Cup held on the Charles River Saturday and Sunday.

The 14-team regatta featured three divisions comprised of 10 races each. The Jumbos scored 76 in A's, 59 in B's and 65 in C's for a 200 team total. Tufts was nine behind Brown University, who scored fifth at 191. The Jumbos led seventh-place Harvard (216) by 16. Boston University won the weekend with 51-67-40-158 scores.

Junior skipper Cam Holley and junior crew Ian Morgan were third in B division for Tufts' top finish. They won the fourth, sixth and eighth races.

The Tufts A team of skipper Alp Rodopman with crew Sarah Bunney placed seventh. They were the runner-up team in the second and sixth starts.

For C's, the Jumbos lost a tie-breaker with Brown based on the number of high-place finishes, to score seventh for the division. Junior Chris Keller skippered with senior crew Michelle Chisdak and they earned a second-place and two thirds.

Saturday was very tough day of sailing and race management on the Charles. The breeze averaged from the Northwest, but at times was West and at times Northeast. Velocity ranged from 1-20 knots. Eight C and six A and B races were completed.

Sunday was another tricky day. Northwest on average, but shifting 50 degrees to either side. A much lighter wind ranged from 0 to 15 knots.

The Jumbos will race at New England's hosted by Brown next weekend.
