Gatti Paces Men's Cross Country at NESCAC Championship Race

Sam Gatti was Tufts' top finisher in 15th place.

WILLIAMSTOWN – Sophomore Sam Gatti of the Tufts University men's cross country team placed 15th at the NESCAC Championship Race hosted by Williams College on Saturday.

Competing on the eight-kilometer course at Mount Greylock High School, Gatti finished in a 26:19.6 time to lead the Jumbos. He narrowly missed NESCAC All-Conference honors, which go to the top 14 finishers.

The Jumbos placed eighth as a team with a 183 score. They were four back of seventh-place Trinity (179).

Freshman Evan Ensslin ran second for Tufts and 43rd overall with a 26:57 finish. Sophomore Neerav Gade scored next for the Jumbos in 45th place (27:00.4), while junior Patrick Nero was on his shoulder at 27:00.8 for 46th place. The fifth and final scorer for the Jumbos was freshman Connor Giersch in 51st place (27:05.3).

Also placing among the Jumbo top seven were sophomore Joseph Harmon (27:21.13 for 64th) and sophomore Collin O'Sullivan (27:27.6 for 65th place).

Host Williams College won the conference championship with a close-to-perfect 22 score, placing all five of their scorers in the top seven. Junior Aidan Ryan won the individual title in 25:27.3.

Next up for Tufts is the NCAA New England Regional Championship at Bowdoin on November 16.
