Men's Track & Field's Stein 10th at San Diego State Decathlon Event After 1 Day

Ben Stein had a 21'10 3/4" (6.67m) long jump in today's decathlon competition.

SAN DIEGO – Freshman Ben Stein of the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team competed in the first half of the decathlon at the 41st annual Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State University on Thursday.

Stein is in 10th place out of the 14 competitors following the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters. The 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meters will complete the decathlon on Friday.

Of his 3,013 points scored in Thursday's five events, Stein earned 736 with a 21'10 ¾" (6.67m) long jump. He was second among the field for the event with a distance that ranked 18th nationally for the early spring season.

Stein also totaled 663 points by running 11.94 in the 100 meters and added 634 with a 54.14 mark in the 400 meters.

Kyle Parr from Kansas State University leads the competition after one day with 3,381 points.
