NATICK – In the spring-season opener for the Tufts University men's tennis team, 10th-ranked Brandeis dominated singles play to score a 7-2 victory over the Jumbos indoors at Natick Racquet Club on Saturday.

Brandeis (3-0), playing their third match of the month and seventh this semester, came out of doubles with a 2-1 lead. They clinched the victory with strong singles play, winning the first four matches off the courts in straight sets.

In a very competitive doubles round, the Jumbos (0-1) started with the lead as junior Ben Biswas and sophomore Niko Hereford won 8-7 in third doubles. However, the Brandeis pairs of David Aizenberg and Anupreeth Coramutla at #1 and Jeffrey Chen with Adam Tzeng at #2 both had 8-6 victories against sophomore Boris Sorkin with junior Nathan Niemiec and freshman Paris Pentousis and sophomore Owen Bartok for the Jumbos, respectively.

Coramutla, Tzeng, Chen and Nikhil Das all got out to early leads for Brandeis in singles play and earned straight-set victories. Das defeated Niemic 6-2, 6-0 in the fourth singles match for a 3-1 Judges lead. Tzeng went on to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Biswas at #3, then Coramutla sealed the win for the Judges with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Pentousis in the second match. Chen then added a 6-1, 6-3 fifth-singles victory over freshman Isaac Gorelik putting the hosts up 6-1.

Jumbo sophomore Boris Sorkin, playing his first match since winning the Intercollegiate Tennis Association fall singles championship, added a point for Tufts with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #1 against Aizenberg. In the sixth match, Brandeis' Rajan Vohra outlasted Bartok 6-2, 2-6, 14-12.
