Gorelik a Winner in A Singles Consolation Match at Brandeis / Tufts Men's Tennis Invite

Isaac Gorelik advanced in the A singles consolation bracket

MEDFORD / WALTHAM – Freshman Isaac Gorelik of the Tufts University men's tennis team was the lone Jumbo to win on Saturday during action at the Tufts / Brandeis Invitational.

Gorelik won his A singles consolation match over Arman Dave from MIT 8-4. He advances in the bracket to the consolation quarterfinals where he will play Adam Gua from Middlebury on Sunday at Brandeis starting at 12:30 pm.

Hard to say it was a disappointing day for the Jumbos, whose sophomore Boris Sorkin won the ITA Cup DIII singles national championship in Georgia on Saturday morning. However, the Jumbos did not meet with much success back home.

Junior Ben Biswas played a very competitive A singles round of 16 match against Noah Farrell from Middlebury, who is the #3 seed in the draw. After dropping the first set 6-4, Biswas battled to win a second-set tie-breaker 7-6 (3). The third-set super tie-breaker went extra, with Farrell winning 12-10.

Junior co-captain Ethan Bershtein and sophomore Owen Bartok, who both advanced to the B singles round of 16, lost on Saturday. Bershtein lost in three sets to Harris Foulkes, the #2 seed from Amherst. Set scores were 6-2, 5-7, 10-6.

Four Jumbo doubles teams were also defeated, though the A doubles pair of Carl-Herman Grant and Niko Hereford, the B doubles duo Ross Kamin with Lantis Wang and the B doubles team Dylan Glickman with Jack Moldenhauer played competitive 8-6 matches.
