#18 Men's Tennis Falls to #3 Bowdoin in NESCAC Match, 8-1

Carl-Herman Grant was part of the lone Jumbos win at No. 1 double

MEDFORD - Third-ranked Bowdoin College took down the #18-ranked Tufts University men's tennis team on Saturday 8-1. Tufts took an early doubles match at No. 1, but Bowdoin won the other two doubles matches and swept the singles action to close out the contest. The match took place on Saturday afternoon at Voute Courts in Medford.

Boris Sorkin and Carl-Herman Grant earned a back and forth 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles, coming out over Bowdoin's Luke Tercek and Grant Urken and giving Tufts their lone victory of the day. Jumbos duo Zach Shaff and Nathan Niemiec fell to Polar Bears pair Kyle Wolfe and Jerry Jiang at No. 2, 8-4.

Gil Roddy and Larry Zhao earned an 8-4 victory of their own at No. 3, beating Ben Biswas and Ethan Bershtein.

Bowdoin proved resilient in singles action, taking all six matches from Tufts. Urken got the better of Sorkin at No. 1, 6-4, 7-5. Niemiec fell to Tercek at No. 2 in their second matchup of the day, 6-1, 6-2.

Wolfe, #33 in ITA rankings, responded to his earlier doubles loss and gave Bowdoin a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Grant at No. 3. Jiang also bounced back from an earlier defeat with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Shaff at No. 4.

Roddy took down Jumbos co-captain Danny Coran 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5. Polar Bears sophomore Justin Patel knocked off Biswas at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3.

The Jumbos will look to avenge their loss tomorrow against Colby in Medford at 10:00 a.m. The match will close out the spring regular season for Tufts. Bowdoin also wraps up their regular season action tomorrow, traveling to face #12 Wesleyan at 12:00 p.m.
