No. 20 Men’s Tennis Improves to 4-4 in NESCAC Conference with 9-0 Sweep of Hamilton Saturday

MEDFORD, Mass. – The No. 20 Tufts University men's tennis team won 97 games and only lost 24 during a 9-0 triumph over Hamilton in NESCAC Conference action on Saturday in Medford, Massachusetts. 

Ethan Chen is currently 6-1 in singles matches during the 2017 season.

The Jumbos (7-6, 4-4 in NESCAC) went 25-7 in games on the doubles side and 72-17 on the singles side against the Continentals (5-12, 0-5 in NESCAC). 

Juniors Rohan Gupte and Zain Ali led the charge during the No. 1 flight, defeating junior Eyad Nagori and sophomore Lars Scannell, 8-0. Sophomore Ross Kamin and freshman Nathan Niemiec found themselves in a back-and-forth battle at the No. 2 slot, but the two athletes found a way to pick up a 9-7 win over freshman Sam Farber and senior captain Max McKee-Proctor. 

Senior captain Ben Battle and freshman Ethan Bershtein were perfect during the No. 3 flight, handing an 8-0 setback to senior captain Jon Cohen and senior Devin White. 

Ali was in control atop the singles list for the entire match, defeating McKee-Proctor, 6-2, 6-1, and junior Danny Coran put together a top-notch performance at the No. 2 slot, edging Farber, 6-1, 6-2. 

Sophomore Ethan Chen improved to 6-1 during singles matches in 2017, outlasting Cohen, 6-1, 6-3, at the third slot. Senior captain Kevin Kelly did not allow his opponent to win a single game in No. 4 singles action, outdoing Nagori, 6-0, 6-0.

Freshman Benjamin Biswas outperformed senior captain Burke Paxton, 6-1, 6-1, during No. 5 singles. Senior Austin Bendetson and White faced off at the sixth slot, with Bendetson claiming the first and second sets, by scores of 6-3 and 6-2, respectively.
