|Rob Jacobson lost just three games while winning the #6 singles match
MEDFORD - The Villanova men's tennis team swept the three doubles matches and then split singles to earn a 6-3 victory at Tufts Friday afternoon on Voute Courts.
The Wildcats won on the first and third doubles courts easily. The best match was at #2, where Matt Colonnese and Max Levine posted an 8-6 victory against Jumbo senior tri-captain Mark Westerfield (Menlo Park, CA) and freshman teammate Nick Telkedzhiev (Plovdiv, Bulgaria).
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets. Villanova received wins from Levine at #4, Ryan Peyton at #3, and Chris Seitz at #2 to secure the team victory. Peyton won his match without losing a game.
The Jumbo wins came on the first, fifth, and sixth singles courts. Telkedzhiev won the #1 match handily at 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Rob Jacobson (Winnetka, IL) was even more efficient, taking the sixth match 6-2 and 6-1. Junior Austin Blau (Roslyn, NY) won a first-set tie-breaker before winning 6-2 in the second set to take the #5 match.
Tufts, which dropped to 5-3 overall with the loss, will host a NESCAC match against Hamilton on Sunday at 1 pm. The Wildcats (7-8) play at UConn tomorrow.
