|Junior Austin Blau won in third doubles and fifth singles for the Jumbos
MEDFORD - The Tufts men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory against Coast Guard in their first dual match of the 2012-13 season on Saturday.
It was also the only dual match of the fall season for Tufts, which had played in singles and doubles tournaments to date. The match was played indoors at the Gantcher Center due to wet courts after rain in the Greater Boston area on Friday night.
The Jumbos dominated at all nine spots. Their doubles sweep featured 8-2 wins by the first and third pairs of senior Ben Barad (San Rafael, CA) and freshman Rob Jacobson (Winnetka, IL), and junior Austin Blau (Roslyn, NY) with freshman Nick Telkedzhiev (Plovdiv, Bulgaria), respectively.
In singles, Jacobson did not lose a game at #6. Classmate Jay Glickman (Chappaqua, NY) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner in the #2 spot. Barad took a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the #1 match against Coast Guard's Josh Fischer (Roanoke, TX). Jumbo senior tri-captain Andrew Lutz (Baltimore, MD), Telkedzhiev, and Blau each gave up four games in their singles wins.
Tufts (1-0) resumes its season in March. Coast Guard (0-4) starts their spring season in February.
