|Tri-captain Andrew Lutz had wins in singles and doubles matches for Tufts
WILLIAMSTOWN - Freshman Jay Glickman (Chappaqua, NY) played into the round of 16 at the 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships over the weekend, highlighting the Tufts men's tennis team's performance at the tournament hosted by Williams College.
Glickman opened the weekend with a strong 6-0, 6-1 win over Henry Lee from Bates. He advanced to the round of 32 and was solid again with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Middlebury's Courtney Mountfield. Into the round of 16, Glickman was eliminated by eight-seed Steven Milo from Brandeis 6-3, 6-3.
In other singles play, Jumbo senior tri-captain Andrew Lutz (Baltimore, MD) and junior Austin Blau (Roslyn, NY) won opening-round matches before losing in the second round. Lutz beat Babson's Isaac Thylen 6-0, 7-5, and Blau topped Jason Ottoman from Colby 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.
The Jumbos had two doubles tandems win opening matches. Lutz and freshman Rob Jacobson (Winnetka, IL) blanked Dylan Melnik and Andy Chen from Wentworth 8-0. Senior Ben Barad (San Rafael, CA) and freshman Nick Telkedzhiev (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) won 8-6 against Wheaton's Jonah Feit and Will White. Both Tufts duos were eliminated in the round of 16.
Tufts plays next at the Bates College Invitational this coming weekend.
