GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Tufts University men's swimming team had two honorable mention All-American results (places nine through 16) on day three of the NCAA Division III Championships Friday.
The 800 freestyle relay of senior Noah Cagley, freshman Victor Vollbrechthausen, sophomore John Koster and sophomore Tyler Tatro swam a 6:45.36 time for 13th place at the meet. It's the third All-American honor overall for Cagley (first honorable mention). Tatro also gets his first honorable mention award to go with an All-American finish from last year. Vollbrechthausen and Koster both earned their first All-American honor of any kind.
Senior tri-captain Kingsley Bowen finished 15th in the consolation final of the 100 backstroke tonight (49.62). Jumbo freshman Nate Tingen and sophomore Nathan Mitchell were also in the event and placed among the national top 30 at 50.21 (25th) and 50.70 (29th), respectively.
Bowen's individual honorable mention All-American award in the 100 back tonight is the third of his Jumbo career.
With its 10 points scored today, Tufts is now in ninth place at the NCAA meet with 102 points. Denison leads heading into the final day with 426.50 points.
The Jumbos will look to finish strong tomorrow. They have junior Roger Gu as the top seed in the 100 freestyle, then Bowen, Mitchell and Tingen in the 200 backstroke. Tufts will finish its week at the NCAA meet racing in the 400 freestyle relay.
The national championship meet is being held in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
