Two Jumbos on All-NESCAC Men's Squash Teams for 1st Time Ever

MEDFORD - For the first time in the 11 seasons that the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has been announcing All-Conference teams in men's squash, Tufts University has two recipients as both sophomore Raghav Kumar adn junior Alan Litman were selected to the second team today.

This also marks the first year since 2014 that any Jumbos have even been on the All-NESCAC teams. Kumar and Litman are two of the 20 total players awarded All-Conference, which consists of 10-member first and second teams. Only Trinity College, the top-ranked team in the College Squash Association (CSA) national poll, and Wiliams College have more than two players on the 2018 All-NESCAC teams.

Head coach Joe Raho's Jumbos are preparing for the CSA Team Nationals hosted by Trinity College this weekend (Feb. 23-25). Tufts is seeded in the Conroy Cup, which includes the squads ranked 25th through 32nd in the CSA national poll.

Kumar has held down the #1 spot for the Jumbos all year. The highlight of his season came on December 2 with a 12-10, 6-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9 win over Wesleyan University's Sean Choi, who is on the NESCAC All-Conference first team and is the league's 2018 Rookie of the Year. Against non-league opponents, Kumar had a pair of wins against players who earned CSA end-of-the-year individual rankings last season. He won in three games versus both Ryhs Nordstrom from Bard and Wallace Miller from Haverford. In his opening match of the NESCAC Tournament on February 2, Kumar lost a hard-fought, five-game match (9-11, 11-8, 15-13, 7-11, 11-5) to All-NESCAC first teamer Ian Squiers from Bowdoin.

Litman won nine matches playing at #2 during the 2017-18 season. Two of his wins came in three matches at the NESCAC Tournament hosted by Hamilton College February 2-4. His most competitive loss was versus MIT's Vedaant Kukadid in five games. Kukadid had a CSA individual ranking for the 2016-17 season.

At the upcoming CSA Individual Championships hosted by George Washington University March 2-4, Kumar will represent the Jumbos and Litman is hopeful to qualify as well.
