MEDFORD, Mass. – Danny Murphy of the Tufts University men's lacrosse team has been named to the United States Intercollegiate Division III Team of the Week, as announced by the association Tuesday.
Murphy helped the Jumbos to a 2-0 week, including a NESCAC Quarterfinal win over Middlebury. The junior attackman recorded 17 points on the week as he tied a career-high and posted a season-high nine points from six goals and three assists in a 19-11 win over Bowdoin in the squad's final regular season game. He followed that up with what would have been a season-high eight points, had it not been for the nine he recorded earlier in the week, in a 16-12 quarterfinal win against Middlebury. Murphy scored three times and assisted on five more goals in the contest.
This is the first time the junior has earned the award, after also being named NESCAC Player of the Week this week. Murphy follows teammates Mason Pollack, Frank Hattler, and Ben Connelly who all have also been named to the USILA's teams of the week earlier in the season.
Murphy leads the Jumbos in both assists (44) and points (78). He has 34 goals on the year as well. The 44 assists put him third in the league and his 78 points rank him fourth.
Next up for Murphy and the rest of the team is a NESCAC semifinal matchup against Amherst this Saturday. The winner will play the winner of Wesleyan and Williams on Sunday for the championship.
