WORCESTER – The Tufts University men's rowing first varsity eight finished fourth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship held as part of the National Invitation Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond Sunday.
The Jumbo 1V8 rowed third out of six in the second heat with a 6:10.168 time, which put them in the petite final. They were the runner-up there with a 6:09.644 time. Among NESCAC teams, Tufts finished behind conference champion Bates (6:04.305 in grand final), Trinity and Wesleyan. Overall, Tufts was eighth out of 17 in first varsity races. Hobart won the NIRC 1V8 crown at 6:00.049.
The Jumbos' third varsity eight was also the runner-up in the petite final. They were fifth in their heat (6:33.007), but improved to 6:32.664 in the petite final to place eighth out of 11 overall. Hobart also won the 2V8 races with a 6:13.064 mark.
Tufts' second varsity eight was fifth in the petite final. After a 6:22.669 heat, they timed 6:30.492 in the final. Hobart swept the first, second and third eights with a 6:07.617 to win the 2V8.
The Jumbos' first varsity line-up featured coxswain James Grant, stroke Rick Boer, 7 Mats Edwards, 6 Ryan Bell, 5 Alex Williams, 4 Jordan Bacher, 3 Harris Hardiman-Mostow, 2 James Miller and bow Nick Hartman.
For the second varsity boating Tufts had Tara Curran as coxswain, stroke Henry Ross, 7 Matias Facciuto, 6 Rich Gilland, 5 Isaac Mudge, 4 Peter Malinovsky, 3 Mitch Koganski, 2 Samson Braun and bow Alec Whipple.
In third varsity eight, coxswain Nilay Maity, stroke Akash Maney, 7 Malcolm Zuckerman, 6 Ethan Donnelly, 5 Ted Midthun, 4 David Gantt, 3 Matt Agurcia, 2 Aidan Bauer and bow Tamas Takata sat front to back.
This was the final competition of the 2018-19 season for Tufts.
