WORCESTER – The third varsity eight's second-place finish was the top performance for the Tufts University men's rowing team in action at Lake Quinsigamond versus Holy Cross, Bates and Williams on Saturday.
The Jumbos (6:42.26) were a tick less than four seconds behind Williams (6:38.3) in the 3V8 race. Holy Cross came across the finish line third in 6:49.84 and Bates was last (6:53.62).
Tufts' third varsity had Tara Curran in the coxswain seat and Peter Malinovsky as stroke followed by Ethan Donnelly, Paul Gelhaus, Matias Facciuto, Malcolm Zuckerman, David Gantt, Tamas Takata and Aidan Bauer.
In a good first varsity eight race, the Jumbos were third although they finished barely a boat-length behind winner Holy Cross. The Crusaders timed 6:15.7, Bates was next at 6:19.26 and then Tufts with a 6:21.82 time. Williams rowed fourth (6:23.78).
Tufts was fourth in the second varsity eight race won by Holy Cross (6:19.97). Bates was a length behind in 6:23.9 followed by Williams (6:29.54) and the Jumbos (6:49.31).
These was the final regular-season races for the Jumbos. They compete at the annual New England Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond next Saturday.
