MALDEN – The Tufts University men's rowing team finished an undefeated opening weekend with six victories combined among four different boats versus UMass and Amherst College at Malden River on Sunday.
On Saturday, Tufts had opened its spring racing season with wins over Coast Guard, Middlebury and Williams.
The first Jumbo boat into the water today was the novice eight, and they earned a 6:54.62 to 7:01.1 victory over UMass. The third varsity eight was next and they were 27-second winners over Amherst College, finishing in 7:08.83 to the Mammoths' 7:35.85.
The first and second varsity eights rowed against both UMass and Amherst. The first varsity eight posted a slim 6:30.37 to 6:32.75 win over UMass, but had more breathing room in a 6:53.14 to 7:08.69 win against Amherst later in the day. The second varsity eight won both races comfortably. Tufts' 6:44.71 topped UMass' 7:03.66, then their 6:46.26 beat Amherst's 7:18.21.
The Jumbos will be home again next Saturday to host Bates, New Hampshire and Wesleyan.
