WATERVILLE, Me. - Junior guard Amauris Quezada (New York, NY) had 15 of his game-high 28 points in the first half as the Tufts University men's basketball team took a second straight win in Maine with a 78-66 victory against Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Tufts, which beat Bowdoin College on Friday, moved to 8-8 overall and 2-2 in league play for fourth place. The Mules fell to 9-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Quezada was four for five from three-point range in the opening half and had more than half of his team's points in a 28-24 halftime margin for the Jumbos. Quezada finished 11 for 14 from the field and five for seven from long range.
Junior transfer Alex Orchowski (Cornwall, NY), sophomore Scott Anderson (Sudbury, MA) and freshman Kwame Firempong (Inglewood, CA) all had 10 points for Tufts. Firempong was four for five from the field and led the winners with five assists. Tufts shot 58 percent from the field (28/48) and had 20 assists on its 28 made field goals.
Mike Russell (Wellesley, MA) had his 11th double-double of the season for Colby with 16 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. Christian Van Loenen (Falmouth, ME) added 15 points and six assists, Ben Foreman (Los Angeles, CA) had 11 poinats and Uzoma Orchingwa (West Hartford, CT) added seven points.
The Jumbos return home to play a non-league tilt against Wheaton College on Tuesday night. Colby is off until playing at Amherst next Friday night.
