BREWSTER – The Tufts University golf team is 13th out of 22 Division III teams after one day at the 85th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on Sunday.
The tournament is being played at the par-72 Captains Golf Course Port Course on Cape Cod in Brewster. Play continues on Monday starting at 8:30 am, with the Jumbos teeing off at 9:15 am.
Tufts' four-best scores totaled 333 strokes today. They are eight strokes out of the top 10, with Roger Williams in tenth place after one day at a 325 score. The Jumbos have a three-stroke lead over 14th-place Elms College.
Babson leads the team standings by a whopping 10 strokes. Their score of 291 was +3 as a group, while second-place Johnson & Wales finished at 301 strokes.
Junior Harry Theodore led Tufts with a seven-over 79 on Sunday. Sophomore Mac Bredahl shot 80 to score second for the Jumbos. Freshman Kemp Bassett was third for Tufts shooting 84, while senior Sanjay Mukherjee was the fourth Tufts scorer at 90.
Theodore is tied for 26th in the field of 114 golfers. Johnson & Wales' Matt Daley leads individually with a one-under 71.
Sophomore Adam Schwimmer also played for Tufts and finished with a 95 score.
