Field Hockey at #2 in NFHCA DIII Pre-season National Rankings

MEDFORD – The Tufts University field hockey team is ranked second in the pre-season release of the Penn Monto / National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Coaches Poll on Tuesday.

Head coach Tina Mattera's team finished last season as the NCAA runner-up, falling in the national championship game to Middlebury College. The Jumbos were also the NESCAC runner-up and finished the season with a 19-3 record, matching the program mark for most wins in a season.

The Jumbo team will feature new leadership this fall after the graduation of NFHCA All-Americans Issy Del Priore and Gigi Tutoni, as well as NFHCA All-Region selection Fallon Shaughnessy among others. However, eight of the team's top 10 scorers from last season are due back.

Tufts starts its 2019 campaign with New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action at Williams College on September 7. The full Jumbo schedule is here.

Middlebury is the only team ahead of Tufts in the NFHCA pre-season poll, but seven NESCAC teams overall are in the top 20 including #11 Williams, #12 Trinity, #15 Bowdoin, #18 Hamilton and #20 Amherst.
