Football to Celebrate 40th Anniversary of Undefeated '79 Team at Kick-Off Event Friday

MEDFORD – The Tufts University football team will honor the 40th anniversary of the undefeated 1979 Jumbo team at the 4th Annual Tufts Football Kick-Off Event on Friday.

The festivities will begin with an open practice and social hour for all guests at the Baronian Field House at Ellis Oval starting at 5:00 pm. The main event will be held at the Granoff Music Center on the Tufts campus beginning at 6:30 pm.

The Friends of Tufts Football and the 2019 Jumbo team will recognize the 1979 team with the 2019 Friends of Tufts Football Distinguished Team Award. Forty years ago, the 1979 team recorded one of only three 8-0 seasons in the history of football at Tufts. The squad was the centerpiece of an era at Tufts when the Jumbos won 12 straight games and 18 of 19 overall.
