BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Jumbo women's cross country team placed third out of 18 teams at the Maine State Invitational on Saturday at Bowdoin College, a six kilometer event.

Tufts ended with a score of 89 and a total time of 1:56:48 in the event. Brandeis won the Maine State Invitational compiling a score of 39 and a time of 1:53:05. Bates came in second, 16 seconds behind Brandeis in total time and scoring a 43. Fourth-place Colby tallied a score of 105 which was 16 points higher than third place Tufts.
The Jumbos upperclassmen led the way. Junior Lydia Heely placed eighth overall and finished as the top Jumbo with a time of 22:50. Senior Olivia Barnett clocked a time of 23:22.1 which was good for 16th overall in her first event of the season. Junior Jennifer Jackson (19th) rounded out the Jumbos in the top 20 recording a 23:25 time.
Sophomore Alexandra Wolf scored a 22 with a time of 23:31.2. Fellow sophomore Olivia Martin collected a score of 24 clocking a 23:39.2 time. The Jumbos had sophomore Melissa Rowland (42) and junior Ann Roberts (45) record times of 24:23.2 and 24:31.0 respectively to complete the Jumbos' top seven.
Sophomores Cameron Rusin, Maura McCormick, Johanna Ross, Hannah Nelson, Emily Murray, and Madeleine Oliver, and freshmen Lucy Tumavicus, Alex Walter, and Heidy Acevedo also participated in the Maine State Invitational for the Jumbos.
Tufts will return to action Saturday at the All-New England Championships at Franklin Park.
