MEDFORD - The Tufts University women's volleyball team was a recipient of the 2016-17 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award announced recently.
This award honors teams who have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
Head coach Cora Thompson's Jumbos carry a 3.385 cumulative GPA and achieved an outstanding 3.506 GPA as a group for the spring 2017 semester. Tufts finished 27-4 last season and advanced to the NCAA "Elite Eight."
Back in the fall, Jumbos McKenzie Humann and Angela Yu were recognized individually as New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Academic selctions.
