First Set Win Not Enough as Volleyball Falls to No. 8 Millikin , 3-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Tufts volleyball team won the first set, but they weren't able to hold off No. 8 Millikin, falling 3-1 in their second game of the day at the Barker Chevrolet Classic at Illinois Wesleyan on Friday evening.

With the loss the Jumbos are now 6-3 on the year.  The win improves Millikin to 11-1 this season. 

The Jumbos won the first set in extra points, 26-24.  But, the Big Blue took the next three sets, 25-14, 25-19, 25-14, to pick up the 3-1 win. 

Sophomore Brigid Bell and senior captain Alex Garrett were the offensive leaders for the Jumbos, both finishing with six kills.  Junior Mackenzie Bright added five kills to the evening for the Jumbos.  Sophomore Kelly Klimo finished with 17 digs and Garrett added 12. Bright added five blocks to her day and sophomore Christina Nwankpa finished with six blocks and three kills.  Junior Angela Yu handled most of the setting, finishing with 17 assists.

For the Big Blue Erin Syversen finished with 14 kills and 16 digs, Emily Seegmiller totaled 13 kills and Alora Goodey added 11 kills.  Meredith Artime finished with 25 digs and Rose Syversen added ten of her own.  Emily Mihalkanin took care of most of the setting, finishing with 29 assts.  Marissa McElroy finished with four blocks, and Maddi Holland added four blocks, two of those solo.  

The Jumbos have two more games in tournament play on Saturday.  They take on host Illinois Wesleyan at 10:30 am and then follow that with a 2 pm contest with Wisconsin-Oshkosh.  The Big Blue are playing two more on Saturday as well, taking on Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 10:30 am and then University of Chicago at 3:30 pm.
