The award is given out each year to the senior who “best combined and displayed a high standard of tennis coupled with the highest levels of sportsmanship.” Gann was voted to receive the award by fellow conference coaches.
“Samantha works with a purpose at all times,” head coach Kate Bayard said. “She sets high standards for the rest of the team and conveys them in a motivating way. Samantha plays with a passion for tennis and competition that is evident to anyone watching her. Sam has maintained the highest values in sportsmanship at all times, and she has maintained her focus on giving back to others. She is the ultimate role model for her teammates and many others.”
Gann started her Tufts career playing at #6 singles the fall of her senior year. She has worked her way up the line-up through her four years as a Jumbo and has anchored the Jumbos squad this year playing the entire season at #1 singles and #2 doubles with partner Alexa Meltzer (New York, NY).
This is the second sportsmanship honor Gann has been awarded with this year. Earlier this fall she was selected as the Lindsay Morehouse Award recipient at the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament.
Gann and the rest of her Jumbo teammates will be competing at Williams College this weekend in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
